Invisalign® adopts a modern approach to teeth straightening, using a series of customized aligners. These alignment trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic, which simply fit over the teeth.

The use of aligners will gradually and gently move the teeth into their correct place, following the exact movements planned for you by your dentist or orthodontist. There are no metal brackets to attach nor wires to press. You simply progress to a new set of aligners every two weeks, and until your therapy concludes. The best part is people don’t even notice this teeth-alignment procedure.

The lingual technique places brackets on the back side of the teeth, while the labial or conventional technique places them on the front of the teeth for treatment.

Improving Oral Health

Crowding and crooked teeth can pose some risk since they are difficult to clean and maintain. Left untreated, they often lead to more serious problems, like caries and gum disease.

Abnormal wear and tear of the teeth, and difficulty in mastication and speech are very common. Teeth requiring orthodontic treatment, if left untreated, can injure the joints that operate your jaw (Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction – TMJ).

Types of Orthodontics

Within Orthodontics, there are 2 types to differentiate: lingual orthodontics and labial or conventional orthodontics.

The difference between the two techniques lies in the side of the teeth to which brackets are attached.

How Soon to Start?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends orthodontic screening for all children at age 7.

Because bones are still growing, it is an ideal time to determine what orthodontic treatment, if any, may be needed. In some patients, early treatment can minimize or even prevent developmental problems, what will ultimately gain the patient savings in time and money.

Indications

To achieve better results and the path to your desired smile is the most pleasant, we advise you to take into account the following “care” while on orthodontic treatment.

Care of removable appliances. When removing them from your mouth, we advise you to store them in a box, taking care not to lose them or hit them, preventing them from breaking or deforming. Keep them clean, washing them daily with the brush and toothpaste.

Care of fixed appliances. Avoid the hard elements that can take off the appliances or bend the wires, which would cause the teeth to move improperly, generating adverse effects on your teeth and prolonging the treatment.

Eliminate habits such as touching the devices with your fingers, and other objects.
If you notice that any piece of orthodontics has peeled off or appears broken, visit your dentist as soon as possible.

Hygienic Care. It is important that you are extra careful with your dental hygiene during the entire treatment, since the devices facilitate that there are remains of food in the teeth and that more dental plaque is retained. Therefore, we advise you to spend more time cleaning, brushing carefully after each meal.
